River Sowy and King's Sedgemoor Drain Enhancements Scheme - Phase 1
Good Morning
My name is John Rowlands and I work for the Environment Agency – some of you I will have met either in Parish Council meetings or corresponded with you over past watery matters.
Since the winter floods of 2013/2014 and the creation of a Flood Action Plan (attached), one of the key elements of work was to increase the capacity of the Sowy/King Sedgemoor Drain. To date works have been carried out at Beer Wall to increase conveyance under the A372, dredging under the road bridge at Parchey and railway bridge at Dunball and the removal of a restrictive structure linked to the original tidal gate at Dunball.
The next phase of works is to create formal flood banks of an equal height from Parchey to Monks Leaze Clyce Sluice along with some environmental enhancements. We recently completed an Environmental Impact Assessment for these works and under “normal” circumstances we would be holding public information events to gain comments on the work along the same lines as the events we held earlier this year at Westonzoyland, Othery and Aller. However due to Covid-19 restrictions, this is not possible and we have placed the information on line as highlighted in the attached notice.
We very much value your comments whether good or bad and look forward to receiving them at the web site below
Regards
John Rowlands
