CHAIRMAN’S REPORT 2011

Cllr Triggol welcomed all present .

The Parish Council suffered a double setback during the past year, with the resignations of both the longstanding Chairman, John Weeks after more than 10 years of loyal service to the Council, and the Clerk, Linda Friend, after 21 years as Clerk to the Parish Council. The loss of all that experience is a great problem to the Council, particularly in the short term. I would like to express the appreciation of the entire Council for the years of hard work and dedication of both John and Linda. We wish them good luck in the future.

The Council is pleased to continue its support of the Playing Field committee and Village Hall committee by continuing to make grants available, together with its support towards churchyard maintenance, although this to remain £150 per year. The Council also continues to cover the printing costs of “Chedzoy News”.

The Council is also pleased to meet the understandably increasing costs involved in cutting the playing field grass.

The Village Hall committee is to be thanked for its continued work in running this vital communal facility.

The Parish website is now up and running with Linda Friend kindly continuing as webmaster for the time being.

David Hall, our County Councillor, continues to be very supportive of the Parish Council, regularly attending all meetings and keeps us updated with all relevant information. The Clerk is extremely grateful to him for all his support.

The matter of grit bins has again been raised this year and I am happy to report that a green grit bin will be installed in the Cross Tree area before next winter.

As you are probably aware, arrangements to relocate the Jubilee bus shelter are not now proceeding. The £2500 grant assistance which Cllr Hall arranged in respect of this has been kept back to part fund the costs which will fall to the Parish Council when the churchyard becomes full. I am, however, pleased to report that the trees at the bus shelter site have been trimmed, making the site completely safe and a good deal tidier. The Council have been pleased to facilitate new fencing to ensure the continued privacy of the property neighbouring the bus shelter.

COUNTY COUNCILLOR

Cllr Hall reported the £34 million of SCC cuts were only now beginning to be implemented .

He reported the joint bid which SCC has submitted for Govt funding to expand broadband in Somerset is now reaching its climax , with the announcement due this Friday , 27th May .

He reported on the Bridgwater development and Hinkley Point .

After two severe winters , he said the considerable toll on the state of the roads was likely to be improved following an unexpected rise in highway repair funding available .

He was pleased to see how well the home for problem youngsters was integrating into the community , with few problems .

There are cuts to become effective , including libraries and household waste facilities .

QUESTIONS FROM THE FLOOR .

Following a question from the floor, the parish council is to look into keeping the bus shelter area tidy following the improvements which have been made .

There being no other business the meeting was declared closed at 8.05 pm .
