It has been exceptionally wet over the last few months and as a village on the levels we are of course very aware of the issues that excess water poses.
As a ‘Zoy’ we are an island and the floods of 2014 brought that very much to life with water lapping our boundaries on three sides.
But as an island we have suffered from increasingly worsening ‘Flood Hot Spots’ that are either remaining for far longer than normal or as we have seen in the heavy rain of recent days flash floods that are definitely worse than previous years.
As a village we need to take this very seriously so its important that we work together to ensure the security and safety of people and property.
Our focus over the last few weeks has been the ongoing flood situation in Ward Lane that resulted in a dangerous sinkhole. The combination of the Parish Council and Residents in Ward Lane has resulted in escalating the issue to the appropriate people in Somerset Council and Highways and we are getting some traction now to get to a more satisfactory outcome.
As a parish Council we are about to instigate a flood action committee that will focus on a flood action plan. It’s early days and we will report progress and information through this website and onto social media.
We are also working with the Polden Environmental Network which is made up of representation from all our neighbouring parish councils. Flooding is also very much at the top of their agenda
In the mean time it is essential that we all constantly report incidents. See the link below for more details
Plus you can report via Fixmystreet – Blocked drain, Pothole etc
