Somerset Rivers Authority Partners' Work to Reduce Flood Risks

Cllr David Hall, who is the Chair of Somerset Rivers Authority has forwarded the following information:

The SRA’s new 2021-22 programme allocates £3.44million to 21 projects. Some of these projects are localised, some will benefit the entire county.

I have attached a 2-page PDF of a press release about the new programme.

For those who would like to know more details, I have also attached a longer account of all 21 projects as a PDF. Alternatively, the same information can be read online at https://www.somersetriversauthority.org.uk/flood-risk-work/sra-enhanced-programme-works-2021-22/

There is no one single solution to Somerset’s flooding challenges, and everyone in the county is affected in different ways. The SRA therefore invests in a wide range of activities across river catchments, towns, villages, rural areas and roads at risk of flooding.

All SRA activities are in addition to the usual flood preventative works which continue to be carried out by the Environment Agency, the Parrett and Axe Brue Internal Drainage Boards, Somerset County Council, and Mendip, Sedgemoor, Somerset West and Taunton, and South Somerset district councils.

This year’s Enhanced Programme takes the total number of actions funded by Somerset Rivers Authority over the last five years to 199. All of these works have helped to protect Somerset people and places from flooding.

As new challenges – and new opportunities – arise, your local knowledge and ideas will continue to be of great help to the SRA and its partners.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please get in touch by emailing Somerset Rivers Authority on [email protected] or calling 01823-355111.
